KNIGHTS OF ST. ANDREW
The Knights of St. Andrew exist as a service organization on behalf of all members of their Valley. They are under the immediate supervision of the Valley Trustees and provide services where they are needed. This includes, but not limited to, aiding the Tylers, acting as greeters, providing escort services for dignitaries or for special events, serving as guides, and participating in the Scottish Degree work either by taking part in the Degrees or by helping with stage crew, makeup, robe room, or other areas of need.
History of the Order
Historically, the Order descends from the Knights Templar who, after their disbanding, were dispersed throughout Europe. In Scotland, they found protection and joined the army with which King Robert Bruce met the invasion of his country led by Edward II of England. The Battle of Bannockburn was being fought on the 24th day of June, 1314 when a group of exiled Templars rode into the fray and turned the tide of battle. This intervention may well have tipped the scales in favor of Scottish independence. In gratitude for their assistance on that memorable day by the Templars, Robert the Bruce created the Order of Saint Andrew du Chardon (of the Thistle) of Scotland.
Who are the members of the Knights of Saint Andrew?
The unit is restricted to 32nd Degree Masons only and all other members, regardless of their titles and rank or hat colors, CANNOT hold the honor of membership in this majestic group without first being selected and approved by the members. And then, ONLY as an Associate Member. Think of the KSA as a fraternity within a fraternity. You will be among others with like interests who can provide much needed support. The KSA has many veteran Scottish Rite members who can help new members learn about the Valley and help get them involved.
How Do I Join?
Membership is open to all 32nd Degree Masons in good standing in the Valley. There is a one-time fee of $100 which includes the trademark Glengarry hat and Badge.
